When someone’s about to lose their shit we will often tell them to get a grip. The implication being that if they just hold on tighter and hang tough the situation will somehow get better and sort itself out (one of my favorite Britishisms).

However, in the context of this photography post I’m talking about vertical battery grips for your camera and why you might want to consider getting one—or not. There are two schools of thought when it comes to battery grips—the yeas and nays.

Simply stated some photographers like them and others don’t. I fall into the like them-love them category. The arguments against battery grips include: they’re expensive (especially OEM grips); they’re bulky and they’re heavy. All valid points of view.
