Photography 101: Don’t Be THAT Ass-Backwards Noob


Here is a great look at some photography faux pas to avoid from Stephen Dennstedt’s blog.

This post will probably offend someone but that’s not its intent (well not specifically anyway). It’s more of a tongue-in-cheek jab at some silly photography behaviours (at least silly in my humble opinion). But hey, who am I to cast stones? You are entirely free to do whatever you want. But you gotta know that serious photographers are laughing at you behind your back.

Ass-Backwards Noob Behaviour #1:  This involves leaving your lens hood on in its reversed position. Don’t do it. Lens hoods provide a very real service: one they guard against lens flare from the sun and other bright light sources; two they give some protection to your front lens element. Protection from the elements (rain, sleet, snow and blowing debris) and protection from breakage.
